Guest Lecture (24/8/12)

Orchids –The International School had a Guest lecture for classes I to V on 24th August 2012. The topic for the day was ‘Being Focused’. The guest was Mrs.Asiya Begum.
Mrs.Asiya Begum was born in Maharashtra. She studied in Pune, at Dastur School, completed her higher education in USA, Chicago. She obtained General Education Diploma from Good Council University, Chicago.
Mrs.Asiya began her session stating that ‘Focus’ literally means Concentration and Concentration is nothing but to pay attention to a particular thing. Concentration can be in any field of sports, education, entertainment etc. She pointed out saying that a student has to focus mainly on studies to achieve his /her goals. Goals can be big like those to become an IPS officer or a doctor and small goals may be just to do a given task meticulously . Whatever the goal be one has to work hard continuously to achieve it. To achieve the assigned goals one has to follow step –wise approach; only then it leads to fulfilment of the desired goals which in turn leads to a happy life.
Mrs.Asiya made use of PowerPoint presentation to make the idea clear among the students. The session really helped the students to ‘be focused’ on desired things and not to be distracted by unwanted things from the environment. Overall the session was a healthy one and went off smoothly.

Independence Day (15/8/12)

‘Orchids’ was in fervour of celebration, commemorating India’s Independence. National festivals reinforce feelings of patriotism and remind us of the need to work harder for the country’s progress.

The festivity began with flag hoisting by the Chief Guest, Mr. Partha Saradhi, Finance Manager, K12 Techno Services, accompanied by the Principal of Orchids, Mrs. Mona Mehdi. The Salute and the National Anthem were followed by the speeches of Orchidians in English, Hindi and Telugu. Patriotic songs were sung with the school choir taking the lead.

The Chief Guest in his address stated that the mighty achievements of our great leaders must always be remembered. We understand through their success that hard work definitely paves way to success and happiness.

The Principal in her address stressed that we can feel the real joy of independence only when we free ourselves of evil influences, in the form of thoughts, words or deeds. The need of the hour is to retain our identity and culture.

The day’s programme concluded with distribution of sweets.

Investiture Ceremony (8/8/12)

Orchids-The International School organized the Investiture Ceremony, for the academic year 2012-2013, on August 8 with great enthusiasm.

The ceremony began with the address of the Principal of Orchids, Mrs. Mona Mehdi. She spoke in detail of the encouragement given to students to exercise their right to vote in a judicious manner and the democratic elections conducted in the school. The school song sung by the school choir once again reiterated that Orchidians ‘learn to lead through every deed’. The motto of the school, ‘Learning to lead’ aptly applies to the new leaders ready to shoulder their responsibilities.

The Chief Guest of the day, Mr. K. Srinadh Reddy, Inspector of Police, Madhapur conferred appointments on the students and administered oath. The Appointments are at both School and House levels in both senior and junior sections. Archana Dinesh of class X marched gracefully to be appointed Head Girl-a big responsibility and a coveted position. Ankit Malhotra of the same class was appointed Head Boy. K. Sumasri of class X took the appointment of Discipline Incharge and Arpangmen Imsong (Justin) of class IX was appointed Sports Captain. The proud parents watched their kids march confidently to receive the emblems of leadership.

The Chief Guest, in his inspiring speech of guidance, addressed the Office Bearers to perform their tasks and responsibilities with utmost sincerity and diligence and motivated the students to develop qualities of leadership. He stressed on the importance of honesty, integrity and loyalty as vital qualities for positions of dignity.  The prefects of today are future leaders and hence, very important to the nation. However, everybody has a spark of leadership within and it has only to be kindled to get into the limelight.
.
Badges and sashes, symbols of appointments added dignity to the Council members reminding them of their responsibilities. With these responsibilities placed on their firm shoulders, the newly appointed office-bearers silently vowed to act as role models for the rest of the school to emulate.

The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.
Overall, this day gave a feeling of accomplishment to the entire school and everyone was happy to have witnessed the first formal occasion and a major event of the academic year.

VAN MAHOTSAV (4/8/12)

We all know that if there is nature there is future and life is nurtured if nature is nurtured. It is also known that planting of more trees is one of the best ways of preventing earth from global warming. But do we really take the needed care to preserve forests and reduce pollution by planting more trees?
Van Mahotsav, the annual tree-planting festival in India, is meant to make us conscious of our responsibility towards preserving nature. Orchids celebrated the festival in various ways. All the display boards depicted the need to sow seeds and let them grow into trees to serve us. Vegetation that safeguards creation on the earth became the cynosure of the period. There was a brief programme of songs, slogans and skits in which all the classes presented the urgent need to preserve greenery for the welfare of life on our planet.
Later each class planted a sapling of Bougainvillea in the school and it was a pleasure to watch their activity. The Principal of Orchids, Ms. Mona Mehdi and all the teachers were actively involved in celebrating the festival of a significant message. All the students were of the eagerness to ‘Go Green’.
